What Does This Error Code Mean?

PC error codes and warnings, as well as beep codes can be very confusing and downright tricky to fix for most PC users.  Is it a big problems, or can I just ignore it?  We’ll examine the most common error codes and try to find you an answer.  The good news is the majority of PC error codes are not dangerous to your PC’s hardware, but they should definitely not be ignored.

Error codes can also be an early warning sign of imminent failure of the PC hardware itself.  Let’s try to take some of the uncertainty out of common pc error warning codes, the mysterious beeps when you start up your PC, and more importantly find solutions to fixing them before any real damage is done!

There are four main categories of error codes and warning to look for.  We will look at each category from the least serious to most serious warnings.

Specific Application Error Codes & Warnings- These error codes usually only happen when you try to use a specific program or application.  It can indicate an incompatibility issue or even identify a corrupt file or folder.  THE FIX - Try reinstalling the program or application, or perhaps download the latest software updates for that specific application.  Doing this will resolve most of these errors automatically.  These types of error codes are generally the easiest to diagnose and fix, and represent the far majority of known error codes and warnings.   Make sure your PC also has adequate defenses from virus and malware attacks as well.

Operating System Error Codes and Warning - These types of error codes may identify severe problems with your PCs operating system. This could include problems with the registry, which holds vital information about your PC’s hardware, installed applications and programs, and general configurations and settings. Occasionally, a critical system file can be deleted or corrupted.  THE FIX – Try using a registry cleaner/scanner program.  Most errors can be identified and fixed in a matter of minutes.

PC Hardware Error Codes and Warnings – Typically, this is the most serious category of errors codes and should not be ignored.  It does not matter how virus-free or malware-free your PC is, you can lose everything if it has a fatal hardware failure.  ***If you believe that your PC hardware failure is imminent, you should back up all your important data immediately!  You may see evidence of these types of errors when your PC gets the dreaded Blue Screen of Death.

- When the PC makes that funny “beep” sound from the system speaker when you boot up, make sure to listen!  The PC is trying to communicate with you, and diagnose a hardware problem.   A few OEMs have developed their own beep codes, but most OEMs still use the IBM standard listed below.   The bottom line is you should never just ignore any error codes, messages, or beeps on your PC, even if they seem difficult to diagnose.   After all, your PC is trying to tell you that there is an imminent problem, and it’s giving you fair warning.  Take actions immediately to prevent the lass of data.
